Prisons Sunday Insight
Churches Together East Hull hosted the Prisons Sunday Service on 12th October. June Yates’ talk was well received and many asked for a copy of her talk.
If you would like to give it a read you can find it here;
‘A few years back I represented East Yorkshire at the 40 years Prison Fellowship at Westminster. Prior to this Service, postcards had been given out to prisoners throughout the country to fill in with the words beginning - What do you hope for…..’
more support for mental health and people with drug problems.
I’m really hoping for my victims to in their time forgive me. I’m truely, honestly sorry for my sins. I’m a changing person in here and my father of Lord is watching and praying down on me and I’m thankful so much and I’m truely greatful for another chance. Amen
to be with my wife for ever and for my dog to be alive when I get out x
Within her talk, June read this poem she had composed;
A Walled Garden
(looking through the eyes of a prisoner)
I often dream of times gone by
When I could watch the Butterfly
Flapping its wings up and down
Peace and solitude often found.
Now I live in a concrete mass
Longing to be free at last
A refreshing Green area I thirst to see
And let my weary soul just be.
What brought me here I cannot tell,
And what I wish, is to do well
To get my live back once again
And finally be rid of this tiresome pain.
So to those involved, may I say
A relaxed Green area would make the day
Just some small part that is Green
Where maybe birds can be heard or seen.
What is good for the nation,
Is the Prisoner’s rehabilitation.
So although concrete is a must
A Green garden space would be just.
So in a Green and pleasant part
I may contemplate from the heart
Of days gone by and days to come
When once again I’ll be free and done.
